Getting Teeth Prepared for Veneers
We start by working with you to decide which kind of veneer would work best for your situation. We may take x-rays, and make a mold of your teeth, to ensure total accuracy when creating your veneers. It is often encouraged for you to bring a sample picture of your desired outcome, or even bring your friend to give you a second opinion.
We want to make sure everything is impeccable before we begin! After a target fit is decided on, we will then remove a thin coating of enamel from the tooth surface. Anesthetics will be used, if necessary. This is to make room for your new veneers, and create a final mold of the specific tooth or teeth. Your mold will then be sent to our laboratory for creation. The creation time usually takes 2 to 4 weeks, and temporary veneers can be fitted in the meantime if you absolutely need them.
The Veneers Procedure
The cementing of your new veneer to your tooth is a process called bonding. Before we bond the veneer, we will "try on" and fit it, to ensure the optimal size, shape, and color. We can match the shade of your tooth with pinpoint accuracy, adjusting the color of our cement. To prepare the tooth surface, we will clean it, then etch it. The etching allows the tooth to have an abrasive side to better aid the bonding process.
The veneer is then placed on your tooth with the cement, and final adjustments are made. Once we are sure the fit is correct, we use a special laser beam to activate the chemicals in the cement. This process is what will make sure your veneers will never fall off. We then do a final evaluation, making sure that your tooth looks like brand new. We also check things such as your bite, to make sure your veneer allows you to be comfortable in function, not just appearance.
