Common Chewing Gum Myths

Posted on 9/5/2022 by Dr. Christianne Lee
Common Chewing Gum MythsCandies such as chewing gum are designed to be chewed rather than swallowed because of the distinctive texture of these confections.

A gum base is combined with various sweeteners and flavorings before the product is ready for consumption. Chewing gum that does not contain sugar may help keep your teeth from developing cavities. It is healthier for your teeth than traditional gum that is sweetened with sugar.

This is because sugar nourishes the "bad" bacteria that are already present in your mouth, which may cause damage to your teeth. Regarding oral health, some sugar-free gums are preferable to others, regardless of whether or not they include any sugar. According to several studies, sugar-free chewing gums that are sweetened with xylitol are superior to other sugar-free gums in terms of their ability to protect teeth against decay.

Chewing Gum Cannot Be An Alternative To Brushing Your Teeth

It is crucial to keep in mind that despite the fact that chewing gum that does not include sugar may be a beneficial complement to your professional oral hygiene routine, you should not consider it a replacement for regularly cleaning your teeth.

Chewing gum may assist in the dissolution of potentially hazardous bacteria that is present in your teeth if you are unable to clean your teeth promptly after a meal. This can buy you some time until you can sufficiently brush your teeth.
