I Am Traveling This Summer. Should I Visit The Dentist?
Posted on 5/1/2024 by Dr. Christianne Lee
Nearly 45 percent of all American adults take at least one break during the year to take a small vacation. About one-third of adults vacation for at least a week once a year. While many Americans vacation inside the United States, some adults journey outside the country. If you are traveling out of the United States this year for your summer vacation, here is some information you need to know.
A Lot Depends on Where You Are Traveling
If your travels will take you outside the United States this year, where you are traveling is very important. People who travel to developed countries can expect roughly the same medical and dental care as they would in their home country. However, if you are traveling to underdeveloped countries, you will not find the same level of care you have in the United States.
What to Do if You Are Traveling Abroad
People who are traveling to underdeveloped countries or who are planning to be abroad for a considerable amount of time should plan a dental visit before they leave. By planning a dental visit before you travel, you are being proactive in your dental care and heading off any potential problems before they begin.
For example, if you schedule your dental visit prior to your trip, our dentist may spot signs of tooth decay or gum disease. You can schedule a deep gum cleaning or a filling, which means you should not be in pain for the trip. Our dentist can also give you some advice about dental care during your journey, such as brushing your teeth with a water supply that may not be filtered. The sooner you schedule a checkup with our dentist, the sooner you can stop worrying about your teeth and prepare for your trip!
Not sure when your last dental visit was, or do you just want to make sure your teeth and gums are in great shape? We can help. Contact our office today, and let us arrange a dental checkup for you.
