My Teeth Do Not Close Properly After I Got a Molar Filled
Posted on 3/15/2024 by Weo Admin
Molars work harder than any other teeth you have. They have to chew through all of the salads, vegetables, and meat you consume each day, as well as other difficult-to-chew items, such as hard candy, caramels, and gum. If you clench or grind your teeth, your molars take all of your daily stress on their biting surface.
Molars get more cavities than any other tooth you have, partly because they have deep biting surfaces and grooves to help you chew better. They are also located in the back of your mouth, which makes them the most challenging teeth to brush and floss. If you are seeing one of our dentists regularly, your molar cavity can be found and filled quickly. Because molars are so complex, filling them perfectly can be difficult. If you get home after a filling and you discover you cannot close your mouth properly, here are some tips on what to do.
When a Molar Gets a Filling
It is really important that your molar filling fits perfectly. In a normal bite pattern of adults, molars lie flat on top of each other, which helps them grind and crush food well. If your molars are not lying flat after a filling, you can develop tooth and jaw problems due to the biting surface being out of line. You might even notice you have jaw pain or muscle aches.
When a dentist fills a molar, they will ask you to bite down a couple of times, usually on a special piece of paper, to make sure the biting surface is correct. However, there is a chance that the biting surface is still not perfect once you get home and start chewing with it. If that happens, the problem can be fixed quickly. The dentist will sand the edge of the filling a little to correct the issue.
If you think you may have trouble with one of your molar fillings, no matter how long ago you got the filling, you need to give our office a call right away. We can schedule an appointment for you with one of our fabulous dentists.
